Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs and organize response of crews.
- Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
- Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspects roads while enroute to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
- Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
- Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
- Monitors materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.
- Operates light and heavy equipment.
- Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
- Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
- Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience: 5 years' experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). - Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
- The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Methods and procedures involving storage & transport of hazardous materials
